The famous Incredible India campaign of Indian Government to promote Indian tourism is soon to get its new spokesperson after Aamir Khan being scandalized for his recent comments growing religious intolerance in the country. As per the reports, Mr Bachchan, 73, is going to receive a letter today, that confirms his selection for a three-year arrangement. Reportedly, Mr. Bachchan will be holding the office for three years, as per the contract.
Sources said, Mr. Bachchan was directly recruited by the government, which is very unlike from the recruitment of actor Aamir Khan. Khan was reportedly removed from the campaign on Wednesday evening, as an act of punishment for suggesting that India is experiencing severe religious intolerance in the rent times. Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma has said in this connection that the actor who is being featured in the campaign like Incredible India should be of clear image and should not make any unjustified comment that stains the secular image of India. Aamir Khan’s contract with the ad agency, McCann Erickson, has thus been expired following the incident.
However, the sudden removal of Khan from the said office has made him stressing on the abrupt act of the government. He has said, “It is the prerogative of the government to decide whether they need a brand ambassador for any campaign, and if so, who that ambassador should be. I respect the decision of the government to discontinue with my services.”
However, it’s not yet known if the termination of Khan’s employment, who’s been serving the office for last 10 years is the government’s decision, but, it’s quite clear that Mr Bachchan’s name was reportedly suggested by the Prime Minister’s Office. The superstar has already been featured in some of the leading tourism campaign of Incredible India for the Prime Minister’s home state of Gujarat.
“I think you need to clarify first whether he (Aamir) is being removed because of something that he may have said or it’s the end of his contract. … I don’t think that people are removed just because they did not agree or said something that is controversial,” Mr Bachchan said on television channels last night, according to news agency Press Trust of India.
Mr. Bacchchan has also added that he has not yet received any formal request from anyone to be the spokesperson of the show, but “if they do, yes, I would be more than willing to. I do a lot of this for a state and country and I will be happy if ever there is offer to do something.”
