The Bengal government is absolutely high on its award giving spree, at least it’s act of conferring tiles and giving prestigious rewards reveals such an indication. Over the past few years, the government has already showed its endearment for the personalities associated with Arts and Culture and this time it’s no different.
As the veteran music composer and singing sensation of the 90s, Mr. Kumar Shanu were presented the Lifetime Achievement awards on Monday, the West Bengal government has again proved its affection for the Arts and Culture. In this prestigious award giving ceremony, Bappi Lahiri expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who actually handed over the award to him. The annual Bangla Sangeet Mela, which is solely organized by Government sponsorship was inaugurated with the legendary composer Bappi Lahiri getting the award.
The singing sensation of the 90s Kumar Shanu was also awarded on this very day. However, Shanu could not be present to accept the award in person. Instead, he was given the award in absentia.
Apart from Lahiri and Shanu, the stars like Dwijen Mukhopadhyay , Ajoy Chakraborty and Sandhya Mukherjee was awarded the Bishesh Sangeet Samman , which is prestigious at an equal length.
Shantanu Moitra was honoured with Maha Sangeet Samman along with Mohammad Aziz, Kumar Bose and Shibaji Chattopadhyay.
Sriradha Bandyopadhyay, Dileep Kumar Bose, Fakir Alamgir, and Nachiketa were given Special Sangeet Samman.
Banerjee, on this very function has said that Bangla Sangeet Mela was a grand event. MOre than 6,000 artistes has performed across 10 venues during prestigious occasion of the Bangla Sangeet Mela between December 15 and 21.
Needless to say, this is indeed a wonderful attempt on the government’s part to congratulate this stellar personalities.
